Service: Lifting Appliance Inspection
Client Type: Shipowner / Heavy Lift Operator
Frequently Asked Questions: Lifting Appliances & Load Testing
What is included in a lifting appliance inspection?
Our technical survey includes a thorough visual and structural assessment of shipboard cranes, derricks, and provision cranes. We inspect wire ropes, sheaves, hooks, and safety limit switches to ensure total operational integrity.
Why is proof load testing necessary?
Proof load testing verifies that the lifting gear can safely handle its Safe Working Load (SWL) plus a specified percentage of overload. This is a mandatory requirement under international regulations (such as ILO 152) and Class standards following major repairs or at fixed intervals.
Does PAMS inspect loose gear and tackle?
Yes. We perform inspections and verify the register of "loose gear," including shackles, chains, slings, and spreader beams. We ensure all items are properly color-coded, certified, and within their allowable wear limits.
How does NDT support lifting gear surveys?
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), such as Ultrasonic or Magnetic Particle Testing, allows us to detect subsurface cracks or fatigue in critical welds and high-stress points of the crane structure that are invisible to the naked eye.
