RightShip RISQ 3.2 Readiness Survey – Bulk Carrier

This case study outlines an independent RightShip RISQ readiness survey conducted for a bulk carrier prior to a planned commercial vetting inspection. The objective was to identify deficiencies, improve vessel presentation, and support inspection readiness.

Overview

The vessel was scheduled for a RightShip-related inspection as part of chartering requirements. Management requested a pre-attendance readiness review to assess onboard standards, maintenance presentation, safety arrangements, and documentation.

Scope of Work

  • Inspection of deck, hull, and external condition
  • Engine room housekeeping and maintenance review
  • Accommodation and welfare standards check
  • Safety equipment and emergency readiness review
  • Bridge and navigation area overview
  • Review of selected onboard records
  • Photographic documentation
  • Practical corrective recommendations

  • Findings

Several minor housekeeping, presentation, and maintenance items were identified that could be improved before the official attendance. No critical structural concerns were observed during the readiness survey.

    Outcome

A prioritised readiness report was issued to management with practical corrective actions. The report supported onboard preparation and improved confidence ahead of the formal inspection process.

The RISQ 3.2, a global standard for assessing the quality and safety of dry bulk, container, and general cargo vessels, will officially become the required framework for all RightShip inspections on 25 February 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions: RightShip RISQ Readiness

What is a RightShip RISQ readiness survey?

It is a comprehensive pre-vetting inspection based on the latest RISQ 3.2 criteria. We identify technical and operational gaps, allowing the crew to rectify deficiencies before the official RightShip inspector boards the vessel.

How does a readiness survey improve vetting results?

By identifying issues early, we reduce the total number of findings on the final report. A cleaner official inspection report directly correlates to a better RightShip safety score and improved commercial opportunities.

    What technical areas are prioritized?

We focus on high-impact areas: Bridge and Navigational safety, Engine Room maintenance, Mooring arrangements, LSA/FFA readiness, and the vessel's overall presentation and housekeeping standards.

Is documentation reviewed during the survey?

Yes. We perform a deep dive into the Safety Management System (SMS) implementation, maintenance logs, and training records to ensure they meet the rigorous evidence requirements of RISQ 3.2.
